If you live here or come here often, you should have air emergency medical evacuation insurance

Just this week, 2 different people were so severely injured on the mountain that they had to be helicoptered out of Mammoth to get to a hospital that’s equipped to handle extreme life threatening injuries. Our hospital generally isn’t equipped for most life threatening situations, so if something like that happens, you either get put in a helicopter and get flown out, or you die. Those helicopter rides aren’t covered by standard medical insurance, and they usually cost a minimum of $25,000. Welcome to America.

These were probably the 20th or 25th helicopter evacuations that happened this winter. They happen every year because snowboarding and skiing are extremely dangerous sports. They’re also extremely fun, and people often forget how dangerous they are when they’re having fun. Never forget that when you’re riding.

I know health insurance is expensive, but getting hurt in the US is significantly more expensive. If you’re a regular skier/snowboarder, you should absolutely have normal health insurance. Just lookin out for yall
