I've never ever gone camping. Either out in the wilds or in a fixed campsite. We're a family of 4, 2 boys aged 9 & 6.

Can someone please advise what are the must-haves, the nice-to-haves and the luxuries that one should buy to make the experience as enjoyable as possible. I was tempted to pick up a few items that I think Lidl were doing last week but given this is a bit of a trial, I didn't want to buy just random stuff. Obviously a tent & a ground sheet is a must 😁, I'm assuming mattresses & sleeping bags but I'm wondering what other items should I get.

Also, where would people recommend going once you have the basics bits & bobs?
