Opinions needed from actual wood workers and luthiers

Restoring my dad’s old telecaster that he kinda ruined. Not entirely sure why he chose matte teal for his favorite guitar 😂😂. I’m kinda doing my own spin on the Jim Root telecaster but just doing the one bridge EMG. Anyways, how would you guys go about filling that gap on the bottom right of the guitar beside the pick guard? Wood filler or something else? Normally I’m a metal worker so roast away this is my first actual wood project and I’m enjoying it thus far.
