A little backstory:
About 4 years ago, I decided it was time to take control of my health after a severe injury nearly took away my mobility. No more excuses — did the physical therapy, worked on my mental health, bought a sports watch to keep me motivated and help with a structured workout plan (Epix Pro gen 2). I’ve lost 55kg and ran my first 10k a few weeks ago. I learned my injury doesn’t define me and I can still challenge myself. I want to run marathons now and have a strong curiosity in triathlons.
So my question:
Every once in a while I like to browse new tech and see the Epix Pro won’t be receiving any major updates anymore. Is it time to switch over to a Forerunner 970 to access new features and (maybe?) more accurate sensors and data? The new running features really have me wondering if it’s time to switch watches. I also like there is a coach for strength training as well, because I desperately need to incorporate that into my plan to be a better runner.
The Epix Pro was certainly overkill when I bought it. I didn’t swim, ride, dive, golf…. That seems to be the path Fenix is taking. I’d love a watch that I can grow into if I decide to train for triathlon, but running is the priority. But perhaps the marketing has me fooled the Forerunner 970 isn’t the upgrade I think it will be?
I would love any advice you can share.
Last bit of detail: I’m running longer distances now so offline maps to discover new paths is very important to me.
