Sealing EV FIrewall
Hello,
My team is designing our first car. According to T4.8.4, the firewall must be completely fluid-tight, especially at the sides and the floor of the cockpit.
We are planning to seal the edges of our firewall (Nomex/Aluminum sandwich) and we were considering using the 3M™ High Temperature Aluminum Foil Tape 433. However, we noticed that it only lists FAR 25.853(a) compliance, while some interpretations of the rules suggest a stricter compliance (like FAR 25.853(a)(1)(i) or UL94 V-0).
I am struggling to find an aluminum foil tape that explicitly carries a V-0 or the (a)(1)(i) certification.
My questions are:
- Is there a regulatory mandate for using aluminum foil tape, or is it just common practice?
- Are we allowed to use other types of tape (e.g., Polyimide/Kapton) as long as they explicitly carry a UL94 V-0 certification?
- How are other teams ensuring full fire retardant compliance when using aluminum foil tapes for sealing?
Any advice or technical references would be greatly appreciated.
