Most people sell websites the hard way: they message businesses, say the site needs work, try to book a call, send examples, then hope the owner is interested enough to keep talking
What works for me is much easier: I call businesses, point out one specific problem I noticed on their site, and offer to create a free mockup so they can actually see what an improved version looks like (if they don't have one I just ask them if they're interested, and if they are I offer them a mockup of the landing page)
If they say yes , I immediately start building a cleaner version of what they already have. Better layout, better mobile experience, etc. ,something that makes the business feel current and trustworthy. Afterwards I send it over
That changes everything, because now I’m not convincing them with words. They can see it, compare it to their current site, and instantly understand the difference
The other piece that makes this work is pricing. Instead of hitting a small business owner with a large upfront cost, I charge monthly: usually between $80-$120, depending on the business type. That typically covers the website, hosting, updates, and support. It’s a lot easier to say yes to a monthly subscription than to a 4 figure invoice from someone they just talked to online
And once the site goes live, they tend to stay, because it becomes part of how they operate. Leads come through it and their online presence depends on it
The mockup gets the attention, but the monthly pricing gets the yes
