Does anyone know why Adobe Acrobat Reader has been so glitchy lately?

From not loading my signature and initials, to freezing for 10 to 20 seconds straight after loading a document, or freezing for 5 to 10 seconds while scrolling through a document. It has started fairly recently and is incredibly annoying.

The size or complexity of the document doesn't seem to make any difference. It can be as simple as a text-only document consisting of a few pages, or as complex as a large colour PDF textbook with figures, graphs, and images.
