Minor scratch issue – owner insisting on Nexa repaint. Am I being unreasonable?
Hey everyone, Got into a small situation 2 days back and wanted some unbiased opinions.
I accidentally scratched a parked Suzuki Baleno (rear bumper). The damage is quite minor with a small paint cut, nothing major like dents or cracks.
Now here’s the thing:
The car was parked almost on the road with hazard lights on.
As soon as it happened, the owner said: “bhaiyya aapko dikha nahi kya, mere to parking lights bhi on the”.
I immediately accepted it was my mistake and shared my number.
But now he’s:
Insisting on getting it repaired only at Nexa workshop.
Quoting around ₹4500 for a small patch repaint (not even full bumper) (for full bumber paint nexa quoted him 12k).
Asking me directly how much cash I can pay.
What I’ve offered:
Get it repaired properly at a good local garage (my known guy offered to fix it for free as its very small).
Or go through insurance
I’ve clearly told him I’m not comfortable paying cash directly, but I’m willing to fix the damage properly.
So my question:
👉 Am I being unreasonable here?
👉 Is ₹4500 justified for this kind of scratch?
👉 What would you guys do in this situation?
Not trying to run away from responsibility, just don’t want to overpay or handle it the wrong way.
Would appreciate honest opinions.
