At what point would switching to arch be the smartest idea?

I plan to switch to arch... eventually, but im curious how knowledgeable and experienced with linux you should be before you switch?

For example, my current progression with linux is I have played around with a bunch of distro, and personally use Ubuntu (which I do not like.... but I stuck onto it because I didnt feel like swapping everything a third time :P) and Fedora.

I have been on linux for a little over 7 months now, but have been non stop researching linux for a lot of that time. I even got to the point where I installed linux arch onto a test laptop! After playing with arch for a month or two now, I do really like it and think its a super cool distro! I would love to switch to it on my main PC but I do fear that I may be a bit less experienced than I should be, and should hold it off for longer... but how much longer?

I would also say I have had a pretty good grasp on computers, even before using linux, but even now ive delved so much further into it than id ever imagined... and it feels like theres almost infinite knowledge I have to learn!

Any good guides to use to learn about cassettes?

I've been recently interested in learning how to put music on cassettes, but I generally can't find much amazing information that isn't scattered around. I was curious if there is a good guide that gives good information to learn about cassettes, how to use them, how to treat and care for them, and how to put music on them.

Steam unable to open - Cannot run as root user

Hey, I installed steam using pacman -Syu steam and upon open, I get an error saying "Cannot run as root user". I'm still fairly new to arch, so I possible missed a step? I'm unsure on what other information I should provide, apologies!

How safe is it to temporarily put a 20amp outlet onto a 14 gauge wire with a 20 amp breaker?

Hey, my house is shit and the wiring was done by a retard. TLDR, breaker is set for 20 amp but the gauge is 14. From my memory, it would need a 12 gauge to be correct, right?

Well, originally, they put a 15 amp outlet onto the wire which, who would guess, melted completely. Since I can't change the breaker this weekend, or hire someone to do it, would it possibly be safe to last for just a few days having a 20 amp outlet go into that socket for now? Or would that be worse than having the 15 amp?

Not sure if it changed much, but I live in California.

How should I be cleaning Arch? Pacman cache?

New to arch here and I was wondering if there are things I should keep an eye on and upkeep? For example, like remembering to clean out your files, deleting everything within the recycle bin, etc. One thing I do know of, kinda, is pacman caching taking up storage.

I recently learned from my last post about partitioning that pacman's cache can eventually fill up a partition if you end up installing a bunch of things. Does this cache automatically clear itself once you reboot your PC or does it stick around? If it sticks around, do you have to clear it manually?

On top of stuff like this, is there anything else I should keep an eye on past things like remembering to update your system?
