Whirlpool dishwasher pump

The pump quit working so I replaced it. Seems to work now except some indicator lights are dim and I can't choose the heat option. I was getting ready to toss the old pump and this piece fell out. I'm wondering if that was supposed to go in the new pump.

It's got the 5.9 and 134,000 miles. Runs great except occasionally will turn over and not start. Usually pulling either the engine or ignition fuse and replacing will fix it. It did have some old ignition noise filter in the orange wire to the pcm that I suspected may be the issue but I removed it and spliced the wires back together and didn't fix it.
