Hi there beautiful people.
tl/dr: Mainly making this post to ask for any suggestions on how to style or shape my hair, especially on the back of my head as it tends to just be a thick blobbish shape that I don’t quite care for. do you have any ideas, or suggested cuts I can show my hairdresser, or pictures of people with a similar looking texture of hair/head shape? I wouldn’t mind going shorter in the back, as I don’t think I want my hair touching my shoulders. Ideally I’m not looking for something super high-maintenance, but feel free to suggest whatever you want.
My hair hasn’t been nearly this long since childhood, so I’m still learning! I ended up with this middle part style and it’s serviceable enough with my big head/hairline. I tend to try and tuck some hair behind the ears as I think it looks nice, but it doesn’t quite stay put (and touching up too much leads to poof as we know), and also it is already pretty dense with hair in the sides/back. I just don’t really know what to do with it from here. My hairdresser is the best I’ve found for curls but they typically work with longer & more textured hair and had no specific style suggestions.
Again I mostly don’t love how it looks from behind, and it gets a bit flat if I don’t try to liven it up (as you can see a little in the second set of pictures). this, and how thick and poofy it’s getting in the back is my biggest area of concern at the moment.
as a side note, I am experimenting with gel, which so far typically kills curls and poofs my hair out quite badly after the first day. The first set of pictures are with gel (and more the look I am hopeful for generally, definition-wise), the second set is a bit messy after a week of trying to recover from the horrible after-effects of the gel, but not too far from how my hair generally looks - and it highlights the thickness in the back better.
routine as per the rules:
1/2 times a week curlsmith shampoo (orange moisture cleanser one), 2/3 times a week briogeo curl conditioner and some of their curl cream. Wash and go. Occasionally use prescription shampoo for seb derm that works as a clarifying shampoo. Always air dry, typically get it wet every morning. This has been the best product combination so far for my scalp and curls.
thanks for reading!
