What if Apple stores had looked like this in the early 2000s?

Apple Retail Concept by Marc Newson, over a decade before he joined their design team. Much more inspired by the iMac G3 than the minimalist style that followed.

First time using soap, the smell is really strong but kinda aesthetic too, and you smell good after.

When I was using it I also noticed the shower has some serious Cleancore vibes. Never been in there before, got hit with some serious nostalgic memories of my last bath in the 2010s.

Anyone else feel like the Covid era sterile design took all the fun out of soap? It's pretty rare to see these aesthetics nowadays.

Brio Refining in Friendswood, Texas was declared a Superfund site by the EPA in 1984. While the facility had been operating since 1957, the homes nearby were only a few years old.

Monsanto, Amoco, Chevron, and others had dumped chemicals including vinyl chloride monomers and styrene tars at the site, causing residents of the Southbend neighborhood to experience serious health issues. Mothers living in the area had children with severe birth defects.

Eventually, 677 homes were razed, and soil cleanup was conducted.

A new neighborhood was developed on the Southbend site, 2nd photo shows current Zillow prices for the area. Would you bet your family's health and half a million dollars on this cleanup?

At the height of Cold War tensions, the US Strategic Air Command entertained more than a few radical proposals to harden missile defense against Soviet attacks.

One such project contracted General Motors to build a rapidly mobile surface-to air missile platform. The brass volunteered a prototype Cadillac Eldorado to use as the test bed, as it was slated to be destroyed otherwise.

Only one declassified photo of the project was ever found. Evolving ICBM technology, the success of the SR-71, and a ballooning tire budget led to the project being unceremoniously cancelled and buried.

The whereabouts of the XP-900 were unknown until the third photo was posted by an unidentified forum user, who claimed to have seen the car while exploring an off-limits test range in Nevada in 2002.

The development is Lakes at Crockett Martin. The developer shoehorned tons of snout houses along a single horseshoe-shaped street. A walking path around the lake would be way too much to ask at this price point.

You'll almost feel like you're living the suburban dream sitting on your back porch staring at the pesticide runoff-filled swamp. Better hope nothing is blocking the one street if you live at the end and need an ambulance.

In 1984, two engineers at Honda looked at the new City Cabriolet, looked at a picture of a Fiat Jolly, and then looked quite hard at a bottle of Suntory.

The crude prototype they subsequently made caught the attention of a Honda board member, who also had a stake in a chain of Okinawa seaside resorts. A small production run was quickly greenlit.

The "City Jolly" with its open top and faux-wicker seats quickly became a hit with tourists. A few can still be found zipping around coastal Japan today, sans their original whitewalls.

To ring in the millennium, Volvo brought the venerable 240 sedan back for one last hurrah. The 240 25th Anniversary Edition featured body-color bumpers and trim, a 2.3-liter turbocharged engine, and suspension adapted from the 850R of BTCC fame.

Briefly available alongside the V70, only 2000 examples of these modernized, hand-built bricks were produced from 1999 - 2001.

They were quickly snapped up by enthusiast collectors and are rare to see on the road today, though almost all examples are still running.
