Malaysians who ride scooters/Vespa, need some honest opinions here.
I drive to work in Cyberjaya twice in a week. Around 50km one way, mostly normal commute.
Thinking to get a scooter and only drive my car for meetings with clients.
I’m considering either a Vespa or something more practical like ADV160/Vario. Budget-wise, both would be around the same since I’m looking at secondhand units. (Older year for vespa 2015-2018)
For context, I previously owned a Vario 150 about 5 years ago. Maintenance-wise, I was okay with it even back then when my salary was around RM4k-RM5k. Now my income has roughly doubled, so technically I can afford the maintenance, but I’m still financially conscious and don’t want to make a decision purely based on emotion.
Honestly, I really like Vespa because it looks cool and feels different from normal scooters. I always hear people say the ride feeling is unique and there’s a reason the brand has such a strong reputation worldwide.
But since this will be my daily commute bike, I still want to think properly about reliability, maintenance cost, spare parts, workshop availability, fuel, and long-term ownership.
For people who actually owned or rode both:
Is Vespa really worth it?
Is the maintenance really that bad, or over-exaggerated?
Does it actually feel more “special” to ride compared to ADV/Vario?
Any regrets daily-ing a Vespa in Malaysia weather/roads?
Financially speaking, is it a dumb decision over an ADV160?
Heart says Vespa, brain says Honda. Need honest opinions 😂
