Is it true that Dermatitis herpetiformis is exclusive to Celiac?
I, along with my dad & daughter, have a very severe gluten intolerance, or we are Celiac, but have not been tested. I have been gluten free for over a year and have been feeling excellent. Prior to going gluten free, I also had very bad dermatitis herpetiformis. I had this for many years but after going gluten free it started clearing up in just a few weeks. The worst scars took several months to clear up... it was pretty severe.
I am getting more curious about trying to distinguish between having a gluten intolerance or Celiac and it seems like every symptom overlaps. Without getting a biopsy, is there any way to tell? I have read that the only definitive way to tell is by getting an endoscopy & biopsy. Separately, I have read that dermatitis herpetiformis is exclusive to Celiac. If so, is an official DH diagnosis just as reliable as an endoscopy when trying test for Celiac?
I might just be making an assumption or have received bad information. I'm just curious what everyone's thoughts were on this.
