Summary: Planning to start at my local community college (Westchester Community College) and transfer to Baruch for business (finance/accounting). I already have a lot of college credits and got a A in all of them from dual enrollment + good scores on AP exams, however, one C in a college stats class through my local CC. How realistic is this and what should I watch out for?

Hi, I’m trying to figure out the best path to transfer into Baruch for business (finance or accounting).

I’m considering starting at my local community college (Westchester Community College) to save money and then transferring after about a year (or sooner if possible depending on credits). My main goal is Baruch.

For context:

- I have a lot of dual enrollment credits:

- English 101/102, Spanish 101/102 through Dutchess Community College (all A’s)

- College Pre-Calc through SUNY Albany (A)

- Entrepreneurship + Economics through Syracuse University (A)

-I also took a statistics class through WCC but got a C (teacher wasn't great), so I'm wondering how much that will hurt my GPA if I go there and if I'd be able to retake it.

- AP scores: 3 (Bio), 4 (APUSH), 4 (AP Lang)

- ECs: President of Spanish NHS, service officer of Social Studies NHS, multiple marketing internships + a law internship, community service, plus awards (honor roll and NYS Civic Seal Award)

My high school GPA isn't great overall (~3.3 weighted) because of a bad freshman year and some external stuff, but:

- Sophomore year: 95+ average

- Junior year: a bit mixed due to hard classes

- Senior year: 98+ average (all AP/college classes), but it wasn't included in my GPA i'm pretty sure

My questions: (if you have an answer to even just one of them, please reply, it will help me out so much and I would really appreciate it)

  1. How realistic is transferring into Baruch for business from Westchester Community College?

  2. What GPA should I aim for to be competitive?

  3. Does Baruch care about older dual enrollment grades (like one C which I can most likely retake and get an A) or mostly your recent college GPA?

  4. Is it worth retaking a stats class if I got a C?

  5. What classes should I make sure to take before transferring so I don’t fall behind?

  6. Do transfer students usually get any decent financial aid or scholarships?

Would really appreciate any advice, especially from people who transferred into Baruch or another CUNY business program.

Summary: Considering going to WCC to save money and transfer to a top SUNY (like Binghamton) or schools like Baruch/Fordham/NYU. I already have a lot of dual enrollment/AP credits, wondering how transferring credits, GPA (especially one C in stats), and transfer chances work.

Hi everyone, I’m looking for some advice about Westchester Community College and transferring.

I live about 30 minutes from WCC, so commuting would be really easy and it seems like a good option financially. My main goal would be to go there for a short period (ideally 1 year, maybe even 1 semester if possible depending on credits) and then transfer to a strong school like Binghamton, Baruch, or potentially even Fordham/NYU if things work out.

I’m planning on doing something in business, or maybe accounting or finance (or something related).

For context:

- I took a bunch of dual enrollment classes:

- Spanish 101 & 102, English 101 & 102 through DCC (all A’s)

- Precalc through SUNY Albany (A)

- Entrepreneurship + Economics through Syracuse University (A)

- I also took a statistics class through WCC but got a C (teacher wasn’t great), so I’m wondering how much that will hurt my GPA if I go there and if I’d be able to retake it.

- AP scores: 3 (Bio), 4 (APUSH), 4 (AP Lang)

- ECs: President of Spanish NHS, service officer of Social Studies NHS, multiple marketing internships + a law internship, community service, plus awards (honor roll and NYS Civic Seal Award)

My GPA isn’t great overall (~3.3 weighted) because of a bad freshman year and some external stuff, but:

- Sophomore year: 95+ average

- Junior year: a bit mixed due to hard classes

- Senior year: 98+ average (all AP/college classes), but it wasn’t included in my GPA i’m pretty sure

So I feel like I’ve improved a lot academically.

My questions: (if you have an answer to even just one of them, please reply, it will help me out so much and I would really appreciate it)

  1. Is WCC a good option if my goal is to transfer to schools like Binghamton or Baruch or other top private schools (NYU/Fordham)?

  2. Do those schools actually take a lot of transfers from WCC?

  3. How does GPA work if I already took a WCC class in high school and got a C?

  4. Can I retake that stats class to improve my grade from a C to an A?

  5. Will my other dual enrollment credits (DCC, SUNY Albany, Syracuse) and AP score credits transfer to WCC?

  6. Is it realistic to transfer in 1 year or even a semester with enough credits?

  7. Do you typically get more scholarships transferring from a community college vs a 4-year?

  8. Do you get the same amount of scholarships transferring from WCC to a 4-year as you would if you are a senior in high school going to a 4-year?

Just trying to figure out if this is the best path for me. Appreciate any advice.
