Feeling guilty about telling off kid at playdate

So today we invited a friend from my kids (9) class - known to be a bit problematic with behaviour but means well. Anyway she came before and was very spoilt and stroppy and I found the playdate difficult. My kid has lots of playdates at ours and its always plain sailing.

Anyway this kid asked for a playdate with my daughter and my kid wanted to so I said yes. From the moment we got home from school the other kid was hassling my kid (my kid was making cornflake cakes for them in th kitchen expecting the friend to join but friend just wanted to play on her phone!) then I said no phones here so go cook or talk to my kid then work out what to do after.

Anyway anything they started playing this girl would come telling tales, moaning, asking to go home then changing her mind. The last straw was when I was reading in living room and I hear screaming and crying from my bedroom the kid running out saying my daughter is crying but she doesnt know why.

My kid comes out crying shaking saying this kid slapped her hard in th back then pushed her backwards off the bed (with our cat in her arms). I was furious and shouted at the kid that if she ever touched my daughter again she’d live to regret it etc.

Anyway while chastising her I texted the mum and told her to come pick the kid up. I then took the kid aside and apologised for shouting but reiterated that violence is not accepted in our house and I understood she was 9 and had stressful things going on maybe at home and school but she crossed the line. Anyway I played some mario kart with her for ten minutes then the mum came. I didnt tell thr mum not to grt the kid in more trouble.

My kid said i dealt with it well but I feel I overstepped the line shouting at the girl like that and that I could have or should have dealt with it in a calmer fashion. Has anyone been in this situation and how should I deal with this in future? First time out of hundreds of playdates that I’ve experienced this.
