Pros and cons of each? Need input from experienced mamas!

I currently drive a Ford Edge and it's been great but it's time to upgrade. I only have 1 kiddo, 2 y.o. so he'll be in a car seat for a while yet. He loves taking his damn shoes off in the car and I always have to chase them down so I'm leaning toward a bench seat but I'm sure there are things I'm not thinking of. Which do you prefer and why? TIA!
