These characters in "This Witch of Mine" represent us 😭🤝

These characters in "This Witch of Mine" represent us 😭🤝

They're also peak reaction images I've used these countless times haha. I was looking through my screenshots actually, to comment a reaction image for a story I was reading and came across these ss. Honestly us when reading OIs lol.

Which stories made you react like one/more of these panels?

(I don't know the specific chapter these panels are from, sorry 😔)

I absolutely eat these kinds of stories up. Not everyone does, and that’s okay! ⚠️(LONG)

WARNING, so sorry but this is long.

Note #1
If you read my post to the end, I would love to hear your thoughts! I love healthy discussions, and also enjoy going in-depth about things. Everyone is entitled to their own opinions. Some people’s opinions are stronger than others, and you can relay that respectfully! If we don’t meet eye-to-eye, that’s also fine! I want this comment section to be a safe space open for nice, healthy, discussion haha. Maybe among yourselves, or with me replying to your comment.
Note #2
I know that a lot of these are on my to-read list, but my points still stand!

Where am I going with this post?
I honestly, don't know lmao. I kept writing and writing and the thoughts were flowing out. (to the point where I didn't notice the aching pain in my teeth because of my recently tightened braces). But overall, just want to share my opinion and have healthy discussions with people!

Discussion (No TLDR, sorry, can't manage to put these thoughts into one right now) :
Okay, so I have to admit something, I absolutely eat these kinds of stories up. The insane ones with heavy and dark themes, lots of trigger warnings, etc. The angsty ones that make you cry. The toxic MLs that have wonderfully written growth and character development. The problematic MLs that are honestly absolute assholes to the end. The stories with chaotic and insane plots that make you wonder “what the actual.. frick?” (not in the hot garbage way, in the way that the story is insane). All of it. This is probably because outside of romance and otome isekais, I love to read thrillers, angst/tear-jerkers, psychological horrors, horror in general, broken/flawed MCs, and such.

I haven’t read “Lady Devil” or “Post Possession Damage Control” yet, and have read about all of the crazy stuff that goes down in them. Tbh, I’m super pumped to read them, and am also a bit scared because I just know the years I have to live will probably decrease haha.. When reading these kinds of manhwas, the ones I have displayed in the images, I am never actually condoning the shitty MLs/crazy characters. I never really romanticize romance when it shouldn’t be romanticized. I honestly just like to read dark stories. I find the MLs compelling, but sometimes I hate the MLs considering the way they treat the FLs. But, I never drop the story. I know for sure, even if I randomly stop halfway, or leave it off for a while, I will and end up always coming back to the stories (such as the ones in the images displayed), and end up finishing them one way or the other.

For instance, high society, the ML is trash. Not in the hot garbage way where he has a really terrible backstory which condones what he does, or in the way that he believes what he is doing is okay and has the right to make the FL suffer. But he is trash, he knows he is trash, we know he is trash, the author knows he is trash. He is meant to be hated and portrayed in such a light. Which is what I like about this story to be honest, and I know what I'm getting into reading it. Other than the compelling ML, I'm mostly just reading this for the FL and the ride. Something I account for as a good story in general is a manhwa that keeps me hooked, I find compelling, and leaves me wanting more.

For What it Means to Be You, this is also considered a pretty dark story, but what I really loved about this was how every chapter left me wanting to know what happened next. I also think some of the things Winter did was fricked, but at the same time I really enjoyed the manhwa for the growth it portrayed with both Annette and Winter. Same with My Beloved Oppressor (the novel), I had actually made a whole entire rant on how much I loved the novel previously over a year ago on this subreddit, and think it is a really beautifully written (albeit angsty) story, but I understand, not for everyone.

Like I said right now, after finishing the chapters from the ones I’ve read above, I always end up with the question “Oh god…what happens next..?”. Honestly, what’s crazy is that 2 years ago that version of me would likely read this entire ESSAY I made, and completely disagree.

But since then I’ve devoured so many manhwas of all kinds, broadened what I watch, and have become immune to such dark stories, in a way? But I don’t read these manhwas with a straight face. I get rage-baited, I tweak out, I cry, I scream into the pillow, but I still always end up hitting the next button. I DEVOUR stories that make me feel things, not ones that leave me with a straight face and make me scroll too fast. I love manhwas that I just read for the ride and fun of it, or for who knows why. That's why my favorite genres are so contrasting, while for instance I love psychological horror and drama, I also like cute fluffy romances because both of these make me feel intense emotions (of happiness or through sobbing..).

I also know that, as I said in the notes. These kinds of stories aren't for everyone. This post was actually kind of targeted towards those of you who don't understand why we read these kinds of stories, or possibly hold the belief these manhwas should never have been made in the first place. But I think that's untrue, because these manhwas are for the ones who know what their getting into, and are in it for the thrill/how compelling it is. I also understand some of you have standards for MLs and lines that shouldn't be crossed, and some of these stories cross those lines, but that's also okay. You know what you like to read. I just sometimes see many readers who enjoy these stories (in the displayed images) getting flamed for liking them.

If you read this to the end, DANG. Thank you??? SO much??? You have my respect! I would love to hear your thoughts on this.

(edit: Sorry about the vague message lol. I wanted to discuss with anyone who had points to make about what I had written and had interesting/any thoughts to say. Honestly this whole post is basically just an opinion I have, the thoughts were flowing and I couldn't stop writing 💀I thought more people would have opposite points to make and was excited to have some healthy debates. But I also just want to interact with my twins who love to read such stories as well!)

Am I losing it or do they look similar- (the manhwa char/ is Ines from The Broken Ring)

I've been seeing a lot of reels on Instagram about Hilda (played by Ana Paula Arósio) from the show Hilda Furacão. THEN as I was catching up on The Broken Ring today my brain made an out of pocket connection, and now I can't unsee it. The actor's young version too really does imo look a lot like her..

Is it just me?? Maybe it's the eyebrows... guys..

I have soo many plans for this club and am very passionate about it, my vision was that I wanted this to be a fun and interactive space where you would be able to participate in cool things and experiments related to biology, discuss with your peers about the topic, go on trips (I will focus on trips next year), etc. I really wanted to focus on how biology has so many different aspects about it, forensic biology, microbiology, biochemistry, molecular, marine bio, plant bio, etc. 3 meetings that were a success was our orientation, dna extraction meeting, and a slime making meeting.

Tips for bringing more people in?

I've been really discouraged lately as apart from 3 consistent members who are my friends outside of the club (same grade as me), nobody really shows up to our meetings, despite recap reels/reminder posts on Instagram. Our school year has 8 weeks left, and I plan on closing the club for the year around 3 weeks before the year ends, but want it to be memorable. Some grade 9s have showed up every now and then at the start of the meeting, however they leave at the start before the meeting would have even started.

I plan to collaborate with other clubs + have big plans next year, so any helpful tips on how to bring more members in to my biology club, which I can use for next year as well would be really appreciated! Thank you!
