Hi everyone,

I live in the German-speaking part of Switzerland and currently hold a B permit. I’ve been working as an IT System Administrator for almost one year. Recently, I was accepted into an MSc in Electrical Engineering (specialization in Embedded Systems) at a University of Applied Sciences in Switzerland.

I have a few questions and would really appreciate advice from people who know the Swiss job market.

  1. How is the job market in Switzerland for Embedded Systems engineers?
  2. Is it worth switching from IT/System Administration to Embedded Systems, or would it be better to stay in IT?
  3. As a non-EU citizen, how difficult is it to find a job in Embedded Systems compared to IT?
  4. When studying for a master’s degree in Switzerland, how do students usually find internships or practical experience?

My background is in Electronics and Telecommunications, but since graduating I have mainly worked in the tech/IT field.

Any insights or experiences would be very helpful. Thanks!
