Has Anyone Successfully Gone From Walmart Store Side to Walmart Global Tech? Looking for Advice on the Transition
Hey everyone,
I’m currently working on the store side at Walmart while finishing my bachelor’s degree through Live Better U and working full time. I’ve been with Walmart for going on 8 years and have worked several different roles, including overnight stocking, OPD, produce, produce team lead, and frozen/dairy.
My long-term goal is to transition into Walmart Global Tech, preferably somewhere around data analytics, software engineering, automation, or tech operations. Outside of school, I’ve been teaching myself Python, learning SQL and Power BI, and building personal projects involving computer vision and analytics to try and create a real portfolio instead of only relying on a degree.
I know moving from stores into Global Tech probably isn’t the most common path, so I was curious if anyone here has successfully made that transition or knows someone who has. I also know about the HOPE program and internships being two possible routes, but I’m not really sure which would be better suited for someone in my position or what the major differences are outside of one being 11 weeks and the other being 10.
I’m mainly trying to build a realistic roadmap and hear real experiences from people who’ve actually been through it instead of just endlessly applying online and hoping for the best.
