Problem with my ignition
Out of nowhere, after driving home from a trip, I wanted to turn the engine off, but it kept running even after removing the key. The cruise control light also came on while the key was in position 0 and the engine was still running. When I turned the key back to position 2, the cruise control light went off. I always had to stall the engine to turn it off.
I checked all the fuses. The relays are new, and so is the ignition switch, OEM part. I also tested the instrument cluster from another car. I’ve been dealing with this for about 3 months now and still can’t find the cause.
Then one day, when I turned the key to position 0 and accidentally put it in reverse gear, the engine immediately shut off normally. So I checked the reverse light switch on the transmission—I replaced it, but the issue remained.
I also checked the wiring from the ignition switch and the cruise control system. I considered the starter and alternator as well, but both are fine and have been tested.
