My dang baby only sleeps if there's a blanket touching his face!

So we definitely shot ourselves in the foot with this one.

Little boy, 4 months old and we've started sleep training. When he was younger and he fell asleep in our arms he would always bury his face partially in our shirts or against our bodies.

Now as we sleep train and start transitioning to his crib he will squirm and scream unless I put a blanket next to his head.. which is obviously dangerous. So we're fighting sleep everyday and night trying to get him more independent but he won't sleep without this dangerous item next to his head.

Any advice on getting my little man to transition out of this bad habit?
