I live in Florida and own a 2014 Smart Fortwo. I only have one key, so I’m trying to get a spare made for obvious reasons. Unfortunately, I’m having an incredibly difficult time finding anyone locally who can do it.
I’ve already been to several locksmiths who claimed they could duplicate/program the key, but none of them were successful.
Now I’m being told the only option is to go through a local Mercedes dealer — but they’re saying I have to drive across the state to one specific Mercedes dealership just to get a replacement key ordered. Even worse, they want me to bring both the car and the title in person for verification before they’ll even order the FOB.
I understand the security requirements and I do have everything they need, but I really don’t want to make one trip just for verification and then another separate trip to actually get the key. On top of that, the total cost is going to be close to $1,000 for a spare key.
Does anyone have recommendations for an easier and less expensive option for getting a replacement key made for a 2014 Smart Fortwo??
