Question about Boyle, Finn & Turok’s CPT-symmetric universe — possible link between CMB and the symmetry plane?
Hi everyone,
I’m not a physicist, but I’ve spent the past several weeks working through the CPT-symmetric universe model proposed by Boyle, Finn and Turok (2018, PRL 121, 251301). While reading through their paper and the follow-up work, a question developed that I haven’t seen addressed in the literature: it concerns the connection between the cosmic microwave background and the symmetry plane of the model.
I’ve tried to formulate the question as precisely as I could from outside the field, and I’ve worked through some of the implications in a structured way, including a pilot calculation in a simplified geometry that gave a non-trivial result. Happy to share details with anyone interested.
I’m posting here because I’d genuinely like input from people with a stronger background than mine.
A few specific things I’d love to hear:
• Has this connection been discussed somewhere I might have missed?
• Does the general direction sound like something that’s already been ruled out for reasons I wouldn’t know about?
• If anyone has a background in QFT on curved spacetime, would a brief look at the framing be possible?
Critical responses very welcome. I’d rather hear “this doesn’t work because X” than nothing.
Thanks for any thoughts.
