Does anyone else feel bloated drinking 2 liters on a lazy day?

I drink a lot of water, but I realized the standard "drink 2 liters a day" rule is actually kind of flawed for me. If I spend my whole Sunday on the couch, forcing down 2 liters makes me feel awful. But on days I walk a ton, I can easily kill 3 liters and still be thirsty.

I went down a rabbit hole trying to figure out the actual math for this. Turns out your absolute baseline is roughly your weight in kg multiplied by 35ml. That's your "do nothing" amount. Then you're supposed to add about 200ml for every 10,000 steps you take, plus a bit more if it's hot out.

I'm a computer applications student currently learning iOS dev, so as a side project I actually ended up coding a little app for my phone that just reads my step counter and does this math for me automatically so I don't have to guess.

Got me wondering though—do you guys just aim for the exact same amount every day, or do you just chug when you're thirsty?

I just launched my very first iOS app! It’s a smart water tracker that actually changes your daily goal based on your Apple Health steps. 💧

Hey r/iosapps,

I’m super excited (and a little nervous) to share my very first app with you all!

I built this because I always found it weird that most water trackers give you the exact same 2-liter goal whether you sat on the couch all day or walked 15,000 steps. Your body needs more water when you move, so I wanted an app that actually understood that.

I spent the last few weeks learning and building HydroBuddy AI. Here is what makes it different:

  • Apple Health Sync: It reads your daily step count. The more active you are, the more it dynamically increases your water goal for the day.
  • Weather Adjustments: If it’s a super hot or humid day, you can manually tap the weather icon, and it will boost your goal to keep you hydrated.
  • The 'Buddy': I animated a little droplet character named Hydro who hangs out on your screen and changes his mood based on your progress!
  • Widgets: Interactive Home and Lock Screen widgets so you don't even have to open the app to log your water.

App Store Link:https://apps.apple.com/us/app/hydrobuddy-ai-water-tracker/id6761210383

Pricing: The core Apple Health sync, dynamic goals, widgets, and the droplet buddy are 100% Free. There is an optional premium tier ($4.99/mo or $24.99/yr) if you want advanced heatmaps, smart reminder, AI insight and CSV data exports.

Since this is my first app, I would absolutely love any feedback you have on the UI, the animations, or the step-tracking math!

What’s one app you wish existed but still doesn’t in 2026?

I’ve been exploring ideas to build an iOS app, but I don’t want to create something that already exists or nobody needs.

So I’m curious:

What’s something you regularly struggle with that you wish an app could solve?

Not big startup ideas — even small annoyances count.

For example:
- Something that wastes your time daily
- A feature missing in apps you already use
- Something you currently do manually

Would love to hear real problems instead of “ideas”

Finding app ideas feels impossible now — what’s your strategy?

App research question:

How do you spot low-competition, high-download niches before building?

Feels like everything is already taken.

Any real strategies?
