How to make a tight, sculpted hip fit in a dress like this
I’m planning a gown based on this sketch and I’m trying to figure out fabric/structure choices for it.
I want the overall silhouette to feel more structured and sculpted rather than soft, especially through the skirt and train, so I’m thinking about using a stiffer fabric or adding layers underneath.
My main issue is the fitted hip section though. I want that part to stay really close to the body and smooth instead of looking loose or wrinkled. Would that mostly come from the patterning/corset structure underneath, or from fabric choice itself?

Been working on a few samples lately and noticed something interesting — what I initially thought were pattern issues often weren’t.
Once I changed the fabric, the outcome shifted way more than I expected. It made me rethink how early those decisions really affect the final result.
Wonder if others experience the same during sampling.
