3d printed spline jig results

I’ve been playing around with a 3d printed spline jig of my design and here are some of the results.

Marvin Jones Paintings

Usually I frame paintings for my wife’s art business. She recently acquired 30+ paintings by Marvin Jones and 3 people who bought them commissioned frames for them. I’m really pleased with how they turned out!

No jointer no problem

Edit: I don’t think I’m special or invented anything or think this is perfect. I thought it was fun and someone might see that you can do something without a fancy shop or jig and it still comes out okay. Keep your condescending gatekeeping BS to yourself.

This has another painting on the back that is slightly larger and this is how I’m framing it. I am going to stretch it onto a 1.25” dowel stretcher, make a frame sandwich with a 1.5” channel routed out to accept the stretcher. The frame will be 4” wide on the side you see here and 2.25” wide on the opposite side. The plan is to not stretch it super tight and allow the sandwiching process to stretch the rest of the way.

To hang I’m going to cut a 1/8”d x 1/4”l x 3/4”w channel into the rebate and hang it from a custom 3d printed cleat that will slide into the channel. Then if the buyer wants to flip it around there will be matching channels on the other side.

I’ve never done anything like this and couldn’t really find anything on line that said how to do this but I think I’ve thought it through. LMK if you spot anything I should consider.

I’ve been working on a new sculptural piece that serves absolutely no practical purpose! It’s made of 25 individually printed pieces in petghf that are glued together and adhered to a plywood backer.

I am thinking about making 2 identical frames, stretching the canvas to one of them, then sandwiching the canvas between the two so you have a reversible painting. Has anyone ever seen or done anything like this?

I’m really proud of how this turned out. I used a v groove bit to cut out the splines with a 3d printed hand router jig. ~36”x48” finished in rustoleum clear satin.
