Older bow without metal winding?

Not a luthier, coasting here for advice. I just came across an unbranded Cello bow, advertised as German from the 1930s. It seemed straight to my under-trained eye and well-made, but there was one thing that seemed to stand out to me. It didn’t have any metal winding. Instead, it had leather much wider than other bows I’ve played. The width of the leather was about the same as what is usually taken up by the leather and the metal winding on other bows. Is this common for bows of that era? Any pros/cons?
