Any advice is appreciated.
I live in the outskirts of Dublin in a detached house surrounded by wide open fields. My closest neighbours are 2km away in a posh estate.
Currently farmers began harvesting and tilling the fields around my house which is grand.
My cat Silver, a friendly outgoing and vocal baby, loves guests and running amongst the tall grass jn the fields. But ever since the farmers came, Silver became scared of people, and even me and my family, flinching whenever we come close.
This morning the farmers finished everything and drove off. They won't be back until next year. This morning my guard dog and I discovered my cat sliced open with his intestines pulled out in my land beside the hedge separating our property
I called the local garda station but they said I can't do anything about it since its "not a big crime" and I can "complain to the county council about the noise to get something sorted".
I really don't know what to do, and I don't have the mental strength to bury my baby right now.
Edit: additional information -
It can't be foxes since the cuts are too clean, and Silver's organs are still intact. Not to mention I have a guard dog, and we never have issues with foxes.
Mentioned in a comment, he can't get ran over because he is afraid of cars and loud noisies (we literally live in the middle of nowhere in a detached house. It's always quiet. If there's noise, clearly something isn't normal so the cats stay away and guard dog investigate). It can't be farming machinery. Last year harvesting had no issues at all, my cats knows better as a result.
Farming machinery for wide open fields are MASSIVE. My cat would've been sliced into buts and pieces being given how small cats are. But it's just... a portion.
Farmers only come to this plot of land once a year for a week. For the other 355 days we live in isolation and peace away from society. The fact on the final day of the farmers working the field and my cat died is too strange.
the body is thrown in my yard. I walked my guard dog and he found the remaining chunk of my baby at the edge of the field near my yard.
If he is attacked, Silver is always vocal and I am an insomniac used to let my cats indoors at 4am from catching mice and am a very light sleeper. We have trampoline and picnic tables for him to hop onto. But he's just there.
I am friends with the owner of the plot of land (we are technically neighbours after all and the only neighbour I have), but not the contracted farmers. The farmers were hired by my friend to work the land.
I buried my baby's body. His collar and airtag are all perfectly intact. Machinery could've ruined it or crunch the airtag to bits.
Final update: After scouting with my guard dog, we found the rest of Silver's remains near my yard. I will be talking to my friend to ask which contractor he paid for to get the job done and send a complaint email. Nothing else can be done at this point.
We are paying for an engravement of a tomb for Silver and will be planting a flower bed in our yard.
That is all from me.
