I’m trying to diagnose a weird issue with my ASUS TUF A15, and I’m not sure if this is hardware or software related. I’ll explain everything in chronological order.

Random shutdowns

Since around November/December, I’ve been having random shutdowns during startup.

• The laptop suddenly powers off without warning
• It only happens shortly after turning it on
• Sometimes it shuts down before even reaching the login screen
• Other times I can log in, but within less than 2 minutes after booting it powers off
• After turning it back on again, the laptop works completely normally and the shutdown does not happen again

These shutdowns were occasional. They were annoying, but since I couldn’t find an effective solution, I just ignored them. Recently, though, I haven’t had these shutdowns for a few weeks, but now another issue appeared.

Blue screen

I’ve been getting a BSOD with the error:

MEMORY_MANAGEMENT (0x1A)

This only happened very rarely before, maybe twice in the past, but recently it happened again. The system restarted, and less than 10 minutes later the same BSOD happened again.

I already ran the Windows Memory Diagnostic tool and it didn’t detect any issues. I also removed and reinstalled the RAM modules just in case.

Fan behavior during sleep

This doesn’t really bother me, I’m mostly just curious why it happens. I’m pretty sure it’s some configuration or firmware thing, but I never looked too deeply into it.

The laptop is around 1.5 years old, and since day 1 this has happened:

• When the laptop enters sleep mode (either by closing the lid or automatic sleep), the fans suddenly ramp up and become very loud
• As soon as I wake the laptop up, the fans immediately go back to normal speed

I normally don’t use sleep mode much, but whenever I do, this behavior always happens.

Hardware changes

• Added a second SSD about 2–3 months after buying the laptop
• Added more RAM in July last year

Outside of these issues, the laptop actually works very well. I haven’t had problems with battery life, temperatures, display, or general performance.

One thing I almost always keep enabled in Armoury Crate is the optimized GPU mode, because I like having the dedicated GPU disabled while on battery. I also have battery charging limited to 80%.

Does anyone have any idea what this could be, or how I can narrow down the issue?
