So I finally decided to get a new e-reader, since my old Kindle 5 has been gathering dust for years, due to basically dead battery and me always forgetting to charge it.
I was shopping for a device that could be used for both note taking and reading, but after a while researching, I ended up deciding to not buy a device with pen input, since there were just too many compromises.
I did decide, that I want to have a color e-ink display, since I want to be able to read comics from time to time.
In that category, I was looking at Kobo, Boox and Pocketbook. In the end the open system of Pocketboot won and I chose Pocketbook Era Color for the form factor and screen.
For some reason I completely missed, that the display will be so dark for reading without frontlight, so I want to immediately return it and get something else, but now I'm stuck wondering what device to get.
I already like the open nature of Pocketbook and I don't want the bad battery life of an android device like Boox, nor the more closed off ecosystem of Kobo, but Pocketbook Era is now 4 years old, with no refresh in sight.
What do you think, should I return it and wait a bit for Era 2, just get Era, or buy something else entirely?
