So I was looking at local ads on a website with kind of the same premise as facebook marketplace and I found a local tech shop selling SSDs for pretty cheap especially with the recent prices.
Really every tech media channel I've seen has said to avoid buying second hand SSDs but I don't really get the point why it's so bad. TBW you shouldn't realistically hit as a casual user and if a drive's been used a fair bit with no issue for months doesn't that mean it's skipped past the usual early fail rate of SSDs?
Well I don't know and that's why I'm making this post!
The seller stated they used a tool called HDD Sentinel to check the power on and S.M.A.R.T Health of each SSD and the best value one's I could see are:
Samsung MZVLB 512GB (101 Days / 99% Health) 52$
WD SN730 512GB (61 Days / 98% Health) 52$
Kingston NV2 1TB (151 Days / 97% Health) 72$
To quote the seller also: "They're second-hand SSDs brought from aboard with no warranty, some being taken out from laptops. They've all been tested to be working and the S.M.A.R.T Health % and Power On Hours are listed as well"
I think the first thing I would want to do is replace one of my laptop's SSD because it's only 256GB and gets filled up fast though I'm not sure what I would do with the leftover SSD so if there's anything I can do with that I would appreciate if someone let me know and there's A LOT of drives listed for sale for similiar prices but maybe lower health % or something but if it would help in any way I can provide screenshots of all the deals. Anyway thank you
