What career decision are you sitting with right now in biotech/pharma, and what's making it hard?

Industry's been turbulent, layoffs, pipeline cuts, the AI narrative reshaping which roles feel safe. Curious what decision other people are actually weighing right now.

Bench vs computational, staying vs pivoting out, big pharma vs startup, which therapeutic area to bet on, whether to ride out a bad team, whether to leave biotech entirely?

What's yours?

What career decision are you stuck on right now, and what's keeping you stuck?

Stuck is a useful word because it's specific. You know where you are, you sort of know where you want to go, and something in between isn't moving.

What's yours? Mine is deciding whether to stay in my field or pivot into something AI-resilient. The "keeping you stuck" part matters more than the decision itself.

What's the hardest part of your path right now that isn't about MCAT or GPA?

Everyone talks about numbers. Less talked about: the quieter stuff underneath.

Doubt about whether you actually want this. Family pressure pushing you toward or away from it. Burnout you can't admit to your study group. Whether the backup plan is real or pretend. Whether med school is still the right bet given how healthcare is changing.

What's the thing you're actually sitting with that isn't a score?

Fellow BMEs, what's the hardest career decision you're sitting with right now?

Industry vs grad school, picking a niche, pivoting out of BME entirely, whether to go clinical, data science shift, regulatory, quality, sales, something else?

Asking because the BME path is famously confusing and I don't think we talk about the actual decision points enough. I've been weighing whether to stay in medical devices or pivot toward health data, and the AI stuff is making both options feel like moving targets.

What are you stuck on? Year/stage helps for context but not required.

What's the hardest career decision you're sitting with right now, and what's making it hard?

Not looking for advice, just curious what other people are actually wrestling with.

For me, "hard" has meant different things at different times, sometimes not knowing what I want, sometimes knowing but not being able to afford the move, sometimes watching the field shift faster than I can keep up.

What's yours right now?
