We’re seeing more "homegrown" Desi brands in Canada & US (skincare to fashion) that use traditional ingredients like Amla or Sandalwood but are priced as "premium" products. Or use specific “desi” slangs or logos to target Desis.
Growing up here, I feel like there's a divide. On one hand, I want to support a brand that gives us visibility and feel proud of. On the other hand, I feel like a lot of us just trust the "Global" brands (the stuff you find at Sephora or Walmart) more than a local Desi brand.
Is it just "Colonial Cringe," or is the quality actually not there? Do you think these brands are worth the premium price, or do they feel like a scam/cheesy? Are you guys actually buying this stuff, or do you stick to the mainstream names?
