I just moved into a room in a shared townhouse yesterday, and the bathroom (adjacent to my room) is covered with mold. Unfortunately, I was out of the country when I signed the lease, and the family member who toured the place for me didn't notice. I have a history of respiratory issues, so living with this would be a very bad idea for me.

I will email the landlord today to request to fix it and provide documentation, but from what I've seen of the landlord so far I would be surprised if she actually does anything. I signed a one year lease, and have already paid first and last month's rent. I think I could financially survive losing this month's rent, but I definitely can't afford to pay rent on a second place for the rest of this year if I move without ending the tenancy.

I'm wondering what options I have here. Is there a set amount of time that she has to remediate the mold before I have grounds to end my tenancy? I don't want to end up in some kind of legal battle over this, but if the landlord isn't cooperative I don't know my best option is. Any advice is appreciated!
