So I recently got a 3D printer and I just finished this prototype design last night. Still have a few edits to test out on the print like lowering the upper wall and a bit more trimming to do on the boot but it’s pretty much there. This was incredibly annoying to design because of the off-center design of the shifter gates. I had to make the right wall really thin and high enough to allow the boot enough range of motion so it does not eventually get caught in the gates, but low enough that it does come in contact with the shaft when in reverse. I’ll get to refining it some more at some point but I’m happy with it for now.
Basically I lay the boot down on the shifter how I would like it completely covering the entire shifter assembly (loosely) and move the gear stick through the gates ensuring that the boot doesn’t get caught. Once I have it where I like it, I just press this plate over the top. Run through the gates again, if anything needs adjusting, slightly lift the plate where needed and adjust accordingly. The fit is very sturdy and tight. We will see how that holds up over time as I printed this with PLA instead of PETG or ABS. There are still some issues to iron out as stated above (this one warped a bit on the print bed at the very thin right side), but once I get them sorted and make it more visually appealing I plan on sharing the design so anyone who wants it can have it.
