Hi all,
I’m a Dutch tax resident using an Interactive Brokers account based in Ireland, and I’ve run into an issue with Irish withholding tax (DIRT) on interest.
From what I understand:
- I need to use Form IC5 to reclaim DIRT already paid
- I need to submit Form 8-3-6 to prevent future withholding (treaty relief)
- Both forms seem to require certification/signature from the Dutch tax authorities (Belastingdienst)
However, I’m reading mixed things online and hitting a wall:
- Belastingdienst seems to not want to sign foreign tax forms
- Some sources say you need a “woonplaatsverklaring” (certificate of tax residence) instead
- It’s unclear whether Irish Revenue accepts that in place of signatures on these forms
Questions:
- Has anyone here (NL resident) successfully:
- reclaimed Irish DIRT using IC5?
- submitted Form 8-3-6 for treaty relief?
- Did Belastingdienst actually sign/stamp the forms for you, or did you:
- attach a separate woonplaatsverklaring?
- If you used a residence certificate instead:
- was it accepted by Irish Revenue without issues?
- did you need to resubmit or clarify anything?
- Any tips on the exact process with Belastingdienst? (email, wording, specific department, etc.)
- Bonus: did anyone manage to fix this at IBKR level so DIRT isn’t withheld going forward?
Would really appreciate hearing from someone who’s actually gone through this
