Sleep schedule for 6.5m

The last few days we haven’t had any kind of schedule due to travel and events. It’s been a lot!

So I’m able to get back into a routine and I’m not sure where to start.

She’s been having a LOT of false starts and night wakings.

Our best night recently she had a total of about an hour of naps that day 😅 obviously not age appropriate! But we were visiting family and her fomo won that day. We got 2 long stretches that night!

So that makes me think maybe I should move to two naps and stretch wake windows?

Where should I start since we don’t really have a good baseline now?

She wakes up every 1-2 hours most nights and I’m tired 😴

Falling asleep independently

I have not yet sleep trained my 6 month old. Quite frequently in sleep training discussions I see people say that the baby needs to learn how to fall asleep independently and that this will solve wakes that are not due to hunger or other needs. I’m confused by this because my baby frequently does put herself back to sleep after a motn feed and diaper change. The change wakes her up fully, she will be babbling and smiling and seem wide awake. I put her down in her crib and tell her, “I love you, night night” and she might protest slightly but usually ends up going back to sleep on her own. To me, that says she can do it, right? But then it doesn’t translate to less wakes in general.

Why is bedtime specifically the key?
