Claim

Hey Reddit,

So I had a question on behalf of a situation my girlfriend is going through. About a week ago we were driving and there was a truck in front of us, suddenly a piece of metal falls from its undercarriage and gets lodged under her car. We were traveling at about 45 mph and dragged it for about 200-300 feet before coming to a stop, the truck it fell from clearly didn’t notice and kept driving. It was super tough to get out a gentleman pulled over and literally got under the car pried it out with some pliers. The car was working and driving just fine so we carried on. About 2 days ago check engine light comes on so we take it to a Honda dealership and as soon as they lift it they find that the front sub frame and the fuel line has been damaged. They are quoting about 6.5k my girlfriend is in a policy with her mom and dad under state farm however she is extremely concerned about spiking rates for everyone. Information I do know Is they have had this policy for at least 5 years if not longer without any claims. We did call just to inquire and they are ruling it as a collision claim. I know there is no concrete answer but how badly can she expect to mess up everyone’s rate.

Thank you
