I want to switch to kubuntu from pop is to try kde and just pop is having problems. I mostly want to stick with .Deb and flatpak packages and want something easy and we'll supported like I have been using so kubuntu was the easy choice.

But like I've heard that Ubuntu distros will just secretly swap your .deb for snap I don't know enough to have an opinion on snap but I don't like the idea of downloading one thing only for my OS to say no u actually downloaded this other thing

I am currently running KDE on pop os because the customization seemed fun and I found out you can have multiple DE's.

I can get into KDE X11 but when I try to blog into KDE wayland which I'm trying to use because I heard it's better I get sent into a black screen with my cursor visible and frozen at the center and when I log back into X11 get kspalashqml closed unexpectedly.

So it seems to be an issue with the splash screen but most of what I'm finding is to fix NVIDIA drivers but I'm using AMD or to use SDDM which I tried and had the same issue.

How do I fix this? Or does wayland KDE not work because COSMIC already is using wayland for somereason?

EDIT: looked into it more and it seems the issue is that I'm stuck on Plasma 5(thought I was on 6 cause I literally just installed it but ubuntu compatibility...) but POP has the newer wayland. so it won't work unless I mess with something to force 6 to work or change distros...

So I started using POP back when it was still using their custom Gnome and stopped using it and went back to maining my windows because it just wouldn't work with my 2 monitors properly when the COSMIC switch happened. Now it seems to be working a bit better, but it's still having minor bugs especially with things like it full screening programs on the wrong monitor and I tried using the command I found on an older reddit post to change primeary and it didn't work. Like I plan to keep using it for the summer at least but I want to have a back up plan if it goofs up again or if I feel like I need something more stable for school to use until pop gets polished instead of going back to windows which i mostly want to keep as a back up for things that run poorly but I need/want to use.

Anyways I'm not really a power user or computer science person so my main thing is just the feel of it with the UI it's much more satisfying than windows and base ubuntu were between the doc and tiling and rounder corners. Also I like how at least when it's not having to many glitches it's easy to use and I can use terminal as much or as little as I want for most things. And I enjoy the extra security from flatpak

Anyways many things I use it for are just games, art, watching anime and homework. And the ability to easily change region settings is a plus because I'm a Touhou fan and the older games and CD's in general require the old Japanese character encoding. to install, I know before on my old install of POP I used some Debian language package that added in as a toggle but since i don't even remember what it was doesn't really matter if it's the same one.

Any suggestions?

My main 12+yr old 125gb SSD that pretty much just boots windows is finally dying at the worst possible time it seems.(I have a separate HDD for games and files).

Trying to find a reliable 1TB SSD and yikes way more than when I last looked. Is this one any good I never heard of the brand before so afraid it'll die in a couple years or something unacceptable. But like the normal brands are horridly priced rn.
