Hi everyone,

I’m an incoming graduate student at Brown University this fall, and I’m looking for recommendations for a good boxing gym near Brown / Providence.

I’ve been training for around half a year to a year and have had a couple informal amateur matches, so I’m not completely new to boxing, but I’m still relatively early in my journey. I’d really like to continue training consistently once I move to Providence.

A few things I’m looking for:

- good coaching and technical training

- group classes preferred (mainly for budget reasons)

- within ~30 minutes by public transportation from Brown would be totally fine

Currently, I train in a very small setup (usually 1-on-2 sessions with my coach and a friend), so I’m also curious about how boxing classes are usually taught in Providence gyms. Are most gyms more group-class oriented, or do they also offer smaller training environments?

I’ve heard good things about places like Big Six Boxing Academy and Legendary Boxing, but I’d really appreciate some local insight and recommendations.

Would love to hear about everyone’s experiences. Thanks so much!

Hi everyone, I’m an incoming graduate student at Brown, and I could really use some advice on housing.

I recently received an Auxiliary Housing offer (71-73 charlesfield st, studio, ~$1300/month). Overall, it seems like a solid and convenient option.

However, I’m also currently on the River House waitlist, which is actually my top choice. From what I’ve seen, River House is newer, has better amenities, and is closer to where I’ll be taking most of my classes.

The issue is timing and risk:

I think River House may not start moving through the waitlist until mid-May, with results possibly late May

For Auxiliary, once I sign the lease, I would lose the $500 deposit if I cancel later

So I’m trying to decide:

Take Auxiliary now (safe, guaranteed housing)

Or

Wait for River House (better fit, but uncertain timing)

Please feel free to give any suggestions!

Would really appreciate any advice, thanks so much!
