I got the repair and I’m grumpy
Hi fam. 12 days ago I underwent a uterosacral hysteropexy, anterior colporrhaphy, posterior colporrhaphy, perineorrhaphy, tvt mesh sling placement. Immediately after I was in urinary retention requiring catheterization. This went on for a week when they finally took me back (last week) to loosen the mesh. I peed right away but within the next hour was in retention again.
I let them know Friday that things were not going well and they told me to follow up on Monday. That should give us enough time to see if anesthesia is complicating it all and to see how things are progressing. I reached out Monday saying there is no change. I did not hear back. I reached out Wednesday today saying I am getting a bit frustrated and what’s the plan? And I get a response from the nurse that I just I’m so mad about. She basically said that my surgeon is out of office for 12 days and to just keep plugging along.
They kept telling me that retention was rare. Therefore, I would expect a little bit more follow up from the surgical team instead of being dismissed.
I am just so frustrated. And now I have to wait passively for like almost two more weeks even though they asked me to tell them how I’m doing Monday. Like why if you wanted me to ride it out when you wanted me to follow up in close interval? I am a healthy 39 and I like to drink water. So I make (now that I am painfully aware of my voiding function and volumes) about 500 ml every 2-3 hours. It’s a lot of pee. A lot of cathing. I just want to run again and play with my two little boys and this whole thing was supposed to be an exciting way to get Me back to MYSELF after the trauma these big babies did to my pelvis.
Mostly venting about this crap. And if anyone has any similar stories or anecdotes I’d love to see a light at the end of the tunnel.
