Looking for PhD guidance at University of Auckland (from current students/researchers)

Hi everyone,

I’m from India and currently a last-semester MPT (Sports Medicine) student. I’m planning to pursue a PhD, and I’m particularly interested in applying to the University of Auckland.

I’d really appreciate insights from anyone who is currently studying there or has gone through the PhD application process (especially in physiotherapy/sports rehab or related fields).

A few things I’d love to know:

How competitive is admission at the University of Auckland?

What kind of profile (research experience, publications, clinical background) is usually expected?

How important are publications before applying?

What’s the best way to approach and contact supervisors?

Are there good funding/scholarship opportunities for international students?

Any tips specific to applicants from India?

Also, if you’re currently doing a PhD there, I’d love to hear about your experience—academics, workload, and overall environment.

Thanks a lot!

Patna wasn’t what I thought it would be

Just got back from my Patna trip and honestly… didn’t expect to enjoy it this much.

Patna has this raw, real vibe that you don’t really get in bigger “polished” cities. It’s chaotic, yes—but in a way that feels alive. The streets are always buzzing, chai stalls on every corner, and people are surprisingly warm once you start talking.

Food was a BIG highlight. Litti chokha hits different when you have it locally—simple, smoky, and insanely satisfying. Also tried sattu drinks in the heat, and now I get why locals swear by it.

What stood out most was the mix of old and new. You’ll see historical spots, crowded markets, and then suddenly modern cafes popping up. It’s like the city is constantly evolving but still holding onto its roots.

Not gonna lie, it’s not a “luxury trip” kind of destination—but if you like real experiences, local culture, and food that actually has character, Patna is worth it.

Anyone else been there? What did I miss?
