Strategy question for fives

When playing fives and you are faced with the option of:

A) Playing a fat double with no score, and leaving yourself a potential opening,

B) Scoring 5 or 10, but cutting yourself off.

Which do you do?

My 0.3 Orenz Nero no longer advances lead, and I’m seeking advice. I made sure the cone and pipe was clear, no apparent problem there.

When I have the cone off, I can hold the clutch mechanism in place and press the button. It feels to me like the button does not depress quite as far as before. More notably, the little two-part metal sleeve within the clutch (you can see that part in the pic) doesn’t extend at all, and thus doesn’t seem to be opening when I press the button. I assume that’s where the problem lies, but I could be overlooking something.

Any advice on fixing it?

I feel like setting the anti-skate with a blank disc should be a reliable and repeatable method, but I’m not what to do here. My tt is level, and as I adjust the antiskate dial, the tone arm drifts back and forth, and will eventually settle in one place depending on where the anti-skate dial is set.

My question is this: Where should I have the tone arm settle?

I’ve read it should just fall (drift) into the run out groove at the end of a record. If I set it like that, it seems to hit the run in groove too aggressively at the beginning of a record.

Just matching the number on the anti-skate dial to the vtf weight seems imprecise.

Advice?

Please help me out if possible. I’ve got a couple 3-4 year old Concord grape vines. They did great last year and I got a decent harvest. This year, after showing some good spring growth, I’m seeing some of the new growth dying off. What’s going on? We’ve had some lows in the 40’s this last week, but nothing close to freezing
