IKEA smart home fail!
Let me start this off by saying that I love, and will continue to love, IKEA. They were there for me when I needed cheap and good-looking decor for my dorm. They were there for me when I needed designer lamps on a budget. The issue is that they are now failing us.
The recent line of smart home products has been a disaster. They rushed to be one of the first fully Matter-compatible companies, which caused an insane amount of issues. The first issue is related to their new speakers.
Post-Sonos, their speakers have gone downhill. If you read the reviews on their website and Reddit, you will notice that they constantly make a hissing noise, disconnect, and reconnect constantly, which causes the noise of a woman breathing to play many times during the day (that noise is the connection indicator). This connection issue makes it sound like you are filming a spicy video in your home. The other issue is with their Matter tech.
Looking at reviews from around the world, the issues are common and international. The first issue is that the bulbs cannot go to a low brightness while in an orange or red colour; they just turn neon green if you try to do this. IKEA has yet to roll out a fix. The really big issue is that, despite being Matter compatible, they are almost impossible to connect with Matter routers. Smart home veterans have tried to use these products, and they have failed.
This is just a warning to anyone who is currently thinking of buying any of the products. There is a reason behind their low review scores on IKEA’s own website. Beware!
