I had not heard of her before seeing her photo that won 2026 "Photo of the Year." But she has won several Pulitzer prizes and been working for decades. This link is to an article where she talks about her process and the role of compassion in photojournalism. I found her completely inspiring, so I wanted to share! But warning--many of her photos are very heart-wrenching.

I've been watching what I thought was an American bullfrog in this little old pond/spring box in my yard. Normally we just see tons of tree frog tadpoles. We hear more than see those adults. The eggs we see usually are in blob-clumps. I had also noticed my American water plantain that grew from seed last year was looking pretty beat up. Yesterday I realized the big frog was sticking right by that plant. Today I observed it moving around the plant and these egg strands are appearing. But the Internet is adamant that only toads lay eggs on strands. This doesn't look like a toad, so what is going on? Any ideas? This is in the Boston Mountains part of the Ozarks.
