Lordaeron - LF more information

I've tried Icecrown and yes it feels "alive", global is very active and there is a lot of content to do, but there is also a lot of griefers all around the world, farming bots (I have never seen so much farming bots in my life) and also x7 exp rate kind off kills the "vibe" of progression.
Now I wanted to give a shot for Lordaeron but what I find kind off disturbing is that global is only active when people spam for WG battle, there are some pugs looking for to fill ICC / RS raids, but nothing else is going on. I tried to search on forums for guild recruiting new players and no luck. The only option is to go full PvP and forget about PvE scene from what I've seen so far. So how does someone progress here? I would really like to go for both PvP and PvE, I always liked collecting achievements. Is AH alive, I assume that there is always need for herbs for potions/ flasks etc.
