I’ve been reading posts here for some time now because I’ve been looking for a turntable to replace a broken crappy crosley I bought in college.
I’ve been scouting goodwill and yard sales waiting for something to come up with no luck.
A friend recommended I check out a local shop and the store owner had this Pioneer PL 590 for sale. He said it got dropped off as a repair but the owner never picked it up after a year. He said he put in around $60 into putting in a new belt and AT stylus. He said he just wanted to make his money back on it and he was willing to sell it for the $60 in parts he spent.
He seemed pretty knowledgeable and he let me plug it in and play with it a bit. I’m no expert but it seemed to be in working order. He said if I had any issues I could always swing by to troubleshoot.
I know it’s an older turntable but I’m actually so happy to have found it. I was going to bite the bullet and get an LP60X from Amazon, but this one was way cheaper and it feels like it’s got some history. It’s fully automatic and I just feel so lucky.
Google says these are from the early 80s and I like the thought that this was well loved until it made its way to the shop.
Anyway, I guess what I’m trying to say is if you’re looking for a new-to-you turntable, check out some of your local shops periodically. Good luck!
Edit: if you’re in the Houston area check out Sound Exchange in EaDo. He also had a nice looking Technics for sale for $200.
