2005 CBR1000RR electrical issue… thoughts?
Hey guys!
Need an opinion.
I replaced the two headlight bulbs about 1 week ago do Led bulbs. They look great, they’re bright blah blah.
However, yesterday I had some battery issues to the point my bike wouldn’t start at a petrol station and it cut out on approaching roundabouts and junctions (when the revs dropped).
I managed to limp the bike to Halfords and spent £80 on a new battery, fitted it tyre and the bike fired up perfectly straight away.
After a 2 hour ride I got about 5 mins from my house and noticed the digital display on the Speedo was all blank. I had a bit of a sulk and put the bike in the garage. After a couple hours I went into the garage to see if the bike starts….. nothing, just click click click!
Something is draining the battery!!
Rewind back those LEDS I installed…. Could this be the issue!?
I read online that because the new LED bulbs have a lower wattage (30w per bulb) than the original halogens (55w per bulb)
That 50w total between the different bulbs is basically loading up the regulator/rectifier (R+R) and over heating it.
Could this honestly be the cause?
Have I damaged the rectifier?
I’ve replaced the bulbs back to original and recharged the battery…. Will this return to normal working order?
Thanks for any comments.
