Hopeful science fiction shows without asshole characters made in the last 10-20 years?

Hey guys,

I have just binge watched my most liked shows (which I all have on DVD!):

- Stargate SG-1 and Atlantis

- Star Trek (TNG, DS9 and Voyager!)

- JAG (Yeah, I would normally not watch a crime investigation-show, but if you bring in fighter jets, aircraft carriers, submarines etc. you have my interest!)

- Babylon 5 (Best science fiction TV-Show so far IMHO)

And now I want new stuff to watch, but what I don't want is stuff like (New) Battlestar Galactica, Lost, Nu-Trek, Stargate Universe etc. because I am neither into religious stuff (I can take it when it's shown like in DS9 - so one of the major characters is religious and the others accept it, even if they think it a little cooky) or personal drama that was not needed (I call it having asshole characters, who would rather snipe at each other, harm or even try to kill each other, rather than be professional, work together and agree to disagree if they aren't of the same opinion!).

Are there any such shows (so hopeful, bright future shows - hell, I'd accept dystopias, too if the characters aren't dickheads! - with the characters being professionals!) left? At best science fiction, but I'll also watch good fantasy and also military (JAG, The E-Ring, The Last Ship etc.) and spy-craft stuff (like say 'La Femme - Nikita').

Were there any shows in the last 10-20 years that are not full of asshole characters and unnecessary personal drama? Especially science fiction?

Hey guys,

I've recently binge watched my old shows like Babylon 5, Stargate SG-1, Star Trek TNG, DS9 and Voyager and JAG (have most of them on DVD, because I am very old fashioned that way!) and now I would love to watch some new stuff - at best science fiction and fantasy (military stuff is also ok, but soap operas and similar stuff aren't my cup of tea! So no stuff like 'Friends', 'Two and a Half Men', 'Big Bang Theory', 'How I met your mother', 'Sex and the City' etc. etc...just don't like that!) - but, what I don't want is basically stuff like (new) Battlestar Galactica, Stargate Universe, Lost, Nu-Trek etc. so stuff full of unlikable (I even go so far as to call them asshole characters!) characters that will rather hurt each other and snipe at each other etc. than work together like professionals!

Seriously, Star Trek from the 90s had that, sure the characters sometimes disagreed, but they usually didn't make the leap of "my commanding officer disagrees with me, so I have to hurt and/or kill him!"...no, they grumbled, they complained a bit and then they did their job! Same for Stargate SG-1 (Daniel Jackson and Colonel O'Neill often disagreed, but they didn't hate each other! In fact they respected each other and were good friends!)

Are there any such shows left that came out in the last 10-20 years that I might not have seen?

ps: No, I don't care that all this abuse and sniping at each other is supposedly "more realistic" - it is not, because if it were, then people would fall to burnout even more than they are (getting beaten down, abused and bullied every day for months to years? That is not healthy at all!)

Hey guys,

I am in need of a good VENTING.

I just lost my "good" computer (Laptop from 2023 - frankly I am also quite sure that it started breaking when I tried installing Linux on it, but on the other hand an OS can normally not damage the hardware, so coincidence? Maybe? Don't truly know!) and I am thus (can't afford the current prices without saving up!) stuck on a 2019 laptop.

So, I looked into putting spyware 11 (also known as Windows 11) on it, but without secure boot? Yeah, can't!

So I went Linux, first with Nobara which worked for a while and then they decided to remove support for older Nvidia GPUs...the laptop has a 1070, so yeah, Nobara was deleted, tried Mint next...ran fine for desktop stuff, but games didn't run at all, not even games from the era (so not new stuff!), so I deleted MINT and installed CachyOS...and that's where it started to annoy me.

Firstly it started to constantly dismount my external drives, sure they run on NTFS, because frankly there is stuff on them that I don't want to delete (I also don't want to be stuck on Linux in the future!)...this I seem to have fixed (I needed that god-forsaken piece of ancient history, that gives me MS-DOS-TRAUMA, known as "the Terminal" - I know Linux-Power-Users and Server-Admins swear by it, but I frankly don't like the terminal...hell, yes I sometimes used CMD on Windows, but it was once every 3-4 months, often even less on Linux you need this thing constantly!)

Ok, next I tried installing my USB (Wavlink) External-Graphics-Adapter...yeah, at first it didn't want to use the driver that was for another distro (there is no driver for Arch or Cachy!), then I convinced it to install it with a work around (via the Terminal again - I am starting to see a pattern here!)...yeah, it's installed now, it has the order to start on boot-up and it does NOTHING! Screens are still BLACK! Have given up for now.

But today it did the worst things yet: Firstly it disabled Dolphin (the file-manager, so what the Explorer is for Windows - but in Windows, I'd simply open Task-Manager and shut the sucker down HARD and then restart it!) and even the "almighty Terminal" didn't work...had to use a reset-point, but ever since that, it won't open the package manager (it insists that another is already running - but according to the task-manager of CachyOS there is NOTHING)

WHAT A GREAT PIECE OF SOFTWARE! SO GREAT IT MAKES ME WANT TO BARF/PUKE! If I could summon Linus Torvalds right HERE, I WOULD and then I'd share a piece of my mind about this software that was built upon his original Kernel!

Seriously, I am SICK OF IT! Anybody willing to donate 1K to me so I can purchase a decent refurbished laptop? :( (Note, don't take this seriously, most of you have your own struggles with stuff like rent and other cost of living things!)

EDIT: Why can't this have nice little .EXE-Files to install stuff? :(

EDIT2 - The newer laptop was from 2023 (typing mistake!), now corrected!
